AI for Accessibility. Łukasiewicz – AI at the Academy of Social Innovators

On 7 May 2026 in Warsaw, the Łukasiewicz – AI team participated in the Academy of Social Innovators, presenting artificial intelligence-based solutions aimed at breaking down real communication barriers for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.

The presentation focused on two high-impact social and technological projects currently under development.

The first is a tool supporting communication in Polish Sign Language (PJM) in workplace environments. The solution is designed to improve everyday team collaboration and increase communication accessibility in organizations where Deaf and hard-of-hearing employees are present.

The second project is “Accessible Book” — a system enabling the translation of literature into sign language, while also supporting the development of models that learn PJM. The initiative combines language technology with the need to improve accessibility to cultural and educational content. As part of the project, prepared literary materials are also made available in video format on YouTube, enabling broad and open distribution and increasing content accessibility for users.

The Academy of Social Innovators provides a space for testing solutions in conditions close to real-world use and for dialogue with representatives of the disability community. This is where technology meets practice — and where projects are confronted with actual user needs (https://www.youtube.com/@LukasiewiczAI).

The presented solutions demonstrate that artificial intelligence can serve not only as a technological tool, but also as social infrastructure — supporting accessibility, independence, and inclusive communication.
