EdgePL
Pilot Implementation of an Edge Node System in Poland
EdgePL – Pilot Implementation of an Edge Node System in Poland is an initiative aimed at the preparation, deployment, and testing of a national model of an edge node system, in line with the objectives of the EU policy programme “Path to the Digital Decade.”
According to Decision (EU) 2022/2841 of the European Parliament and of the Council, edge nodes are distributed computing and networking capabilities located close to the end user or the point of data generation, enabling low-latency processing and high availability.
As part of the EdgePL initiative, 32 pilot edge nodes with latency below 20 ms will be launched and integrated with the national research and education network PIONIER. The resulting infrastructure will enable testing of services close to end users, improving data processing efficiency and the quality of digital services.
The project includes the development of:
architecture and operational standards for the edge node system,
requirements for integration with national digital infrastructure,
a security, monitoring, and management model,
a pilot implementation,
documentation and recommendations for system development through 2030.
The implementation of the initiative will form the foundation for the development of a national, climate-neutral edge computing infrastructure and its integration with European initiatives in distributed data processing and computing.

Development of the initial design of the edge node system.
Preparation of requirements for network and computing infrastructure.
Selection of applications and their adaptation to operate within the edge node infrastructure, including the development and implementation of algorithms for selecting the optimal edge node.
Pilot deployment through the provision of a prototype edge node network to end users, including a prototype technical solution measuring network quality in 32 locations, and delivering services for public administration in 6 locations.
Preparation of a report with recommendations for a full-scale system in Poland.
