A Name that Resonates: Łukasiewicz – AI Gains Nationwide Media Attention

On July 3, we officially adopted the name Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity (Łukasiewicz – AI). This rebranding reflects our strategic commitment to artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and advanced digital services.

The change has attracted widespread media attention across national, regional, and industry-specific outlets in Poland. Journalists highlighted not only our new identity, but also our expanding role in driving the country’s digital transformation and strengthening technological resilience.

Research in Action: Current and Planned Initiatives
As reported by Money.pl, Łukasiewicz – AI is actively carrying out several advanced R&D projects, including:

  • AI Shield – a real-time cybersecurity platform for IoT networks, capable of detecting anomalies across millions of connected devices, from industrial systems to consumer electronics.
  • CALL-POL – a collaboration with pediatric hospitals using machine learning and multiomic data to personalize leukemia treatment in children.
  • RuleMiner – explainable, rule-based AI models that support decision-making in administration, finance, and insurance.
  • Compass – an AI-driven educational platform that generates personalized math and computer science exercises using large language models (LLMs).
  • Accessible Book – AI systems developed to translate Polish literature into Polish Sign Language (PJM), improving accessibility and supporting AI training in sign language.
  • Digital twins – virtual testing environments for the district heating and process industries, enabling safe simulations and operator training.

As noted by PAP Biznes, Łukasiewicz – AI is also preparing to launch several strategic initiatives, including:

  • AI for All – a national program to broaden access to AI tools in education, public administration, and the non-profit sector.
  • Trusted AI National Centre – a specialized laboratory infrastructure for testing AI algorithms in terms of robustness, explainability, and safety.
  • Computing Centre – a scalable platform offering startups and SMEs access to high-performance computing resources.

Bridging the Digital Divide
According to Obserwator Gospodarczy, only 6% of Polish companies currently use AI solutions, compared to the 13% average across the European Union. This points to a significant technology adoption gap — particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises.

Our mission is to help close that gap by delivering accessible, secure, and explainable AI solutions tailored to the needs of Polish businesses and public institutions.

With over 120 experts and active participation in programs such as Horizon Europe, DIGITAL, and NCBR, Łukasiewicz – AI is at the forefront of trustworthy AI development in Central and Eastern Europe. We welcome international partnerships and collaboration to shape the future of responsible innovation.
