Established in 2019, it introduced a new model for organizing the R&D sector in Poland. From the very beginning, its mission has been to build an effective bridge between science and industry—so that innovations can reach businesses faster, enhance their competitiveness, and accelerate the country’s technological development.

Initially, the Network comprised 37 research institutes. Within the first few months, through mergers and integration, its structure was reshaped. Today, the Network consists of 22 specialized institutes located in major Polish cities—including Warsaw, Kraków, Łódź, Poznań, and Katowice—employing over 4,500 scientists, engineers, and experts. It is now the largest R&D organization of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe, powered by synergy and collaboration among its units.

Over the past six years, the Network has evolved—not only structurally but also strategically. Learning from experience and analyzing global tech trends and geopolitical challenges, the Łukasiewicz Research Network has identified four new key focus areas in 2024: defense and national security, industrial chemistry, energy transition, and circular economy.

This shift reflects the need to concentrate efforts on fields that will significantly impact economic growth, national security, and quality of life in the coming years. The new strategy places the greatest emphasis on defense and security—understood broadly as initiatives that strengthen technological independence, infrastructure resilience, and socio-economic stability.

This strategic direction aligns naturally with the work of Łukasiewicz – EMAG, one of the founding members of the Network, which continues to expand its offering of advanced technology solutions, including for industry. The Institute specializes in cybersecurity—both industrial and infrastructural—operating a 24/7 Cybersecurity Protection Center (CUBE) that serves companies from various sectors. It also conducts audits, tests, and training programs in this field.

We’re also developing AI-based tools to support operational, technical, and maintenance decisions in industrial facilities. Our predictive maintenance technologies help increase infrastructure availability, anticipate failures, and reduce operating costs. We support companies in their digital transformation by combining engineering precision with practical implementation.

Another key asset is our comprehensive and constantly growing laboratory infrastructure, which includes:

– Electromagnetic Compatibility Laboratory (EMC)
– Radio Equipment Laboratory
– ITSEF Laboratory – (IT Security Evaluation Facility)
– Cable and Environmental Testing Laboratory (including climate, vibration, and corrosion testing)
– Electric Machines and Devices Testing Laboratory
– Gas Measuring Devices Laboratory
– Calibration Laboratory
– Accredited Product Certification Body

At the Łukasiewicz – EMAG Training Center, we are also expanding our portfolio of technical courses and training—both commercial and tailored for industry and government.

For Łukasiewicz – EMAG, being part of the Network means more than just membership in a larger organization—it’s a real opportunity to collaborate with other institutes, carry out interdisciplinary projects, and share knowledge.

Six years of the Łukasiewicz Research Network is a moment to reflect—but also the beginning of a new chapter built on a shared strategy, responsibility, and clear goals.

We believe that together, we can achieve more—for Poland’s security, innovation, and future.

On April 1, 2024, the Łukasiewicz Research Network marks its 6th anniversary.
